TIMONE AND KATHLEEN

I would like to welcome you to this page. I have put this page together to answer some frequently asked questions about shipping, deposits, litter training, and other topics, and to share some of my expectations of dog owners with you. I hope this helps you understand the process of buying a puppy from me.

RESERVING OR PURCHASING A PUPPY FROM JACKPINS RANCH:

I only raise a few litters of puppies each year, so check with me via email to find out if I am expecting any litters or if I happen to have any available puppies.

1. First of all, do a lot of research on the breed you are thinking of purchasing. It is very important to know about the breed you are wanting to buy, and if they fit into your lifestyle and expectations.

2. Spend some time with someone that has either a Min Pin and make sure that this is the breed for you.

3. Be prepared for a puppy, BEFORE you buy a puppy. It is only fair to have things ready before the puppy arrives in your home. Look at your schedule and really be honest with yourself on whether or not you have time for a puppy. If you are busy every day of the week, then you don't have time for a puppy. Puppies need a lot of time and attention, most behavior problems are caused by owners not spending enough time and training their puppies or dogs.

4. Tell me about yourself, what you are wanting in a puppy, color, sex, disposition. Tell me what pets you already have, and if you have children or not. Tell me if you have ever had a Min Pin before. What are your plans for the dog? Where will he or she stay when you are not home? Where will the puppy sleep?

It is extremely rare these days that I will sell a puppy to be used for breeding. I will have a lot of questions for you, and I will need some references as well in order to consider selling a puppy with full registration. Some people will ask me why this is my policy now, and the answer is that I have had some very bad experiences with other breeders, and my goal is to get my puppies in good loving pet homes period. I NEVER sell my puppies to pet stores, brokers, or to anyone I think is not planning on keeping the puppy themselves.

I will be glad to e-mail you some references from people that have purchased puppies from me in the past. Feel free to contact the references I give you if you have questions about me or my dogs. I want you to feel comfortable with me, as well as I need to feel comfortable with you.

5. I don't sell my puppies to everyone that wants to buy one. Buying a puppy should be a commitment on your part to keep and take care of this dog for it's lifetime. So, don't rush in and buy a puppy, if you are not 100% sure that the timing and the puppy is right for you.

I sell my Miniature Pinscher puppies with limited AKC registration, and they will need to be spayed or neutered in order for the health guarantee to be valid. Spaying or neutering your pet will allow you to not have to deal with the issues that arise from having an intact male, or a female that comes in heat. You and your pet will be happier if you spay or neuter.

6. I recommend you purchase and read books or watch DVD's by Cesar Millan. The book "Becoming the Pack Leader", by Cesar Millan is excellent, and he has a newer release called "How to Raise the Perfect Dog", that is getting great reviews as well. His methods are awesome, and he can teach us all how to have a balanced dog without all the man made issues that most dogs have. His approach is based on understanding "Dog Psychology", and is not "Dog Training".

7. If I have what you are looking for, you can put down a deposit, of $200.00 to reserve the puppy.

Deposits are non-refundable unless there is a health issue or other reason that I don't feel I can sell the puppy to you. I CAN'T hold a puppy for anyone without a deposit, So my policy has to be that Puppies are not considered SOLD until the deposit is RECEIVED!!! I have held puppies before for people that have not put down a deposit and then they change their mind and don't want the puppy. I may have had other people that would have wanted the puppy, but they had been told the puppy was sold. So, I DON'T do that anymore. I can give you 2 days to get the deposit to me after you commit to buying the puppy. I will mark the puppy as "Sale pending", or "On Hold", if I don't receive the deposit in that time, I will put the puppy back up for sale.

You can pay via Paypal, however there is a 4% fee for the convenience of using their service, so you will be paying $206.00 when using Paypal. If you use Paypal for the deposit, you will have to use a debit or credit card in order to make the deposit go through instantly. I NO LONGER accept e-checks via Paypal. I'm sorry that some people are not honest, and e-checks are not a reliable way to accept payment or deposits. I will go to my Paypal account and send you a request to your account, which makes it easier to take care of and will add the 3% fee so it will be taken care of. Or you can send me a Postal money order, or a Walmart money order or cashiers check, Express mail, or Fedex, or depending on your location, priority mail. I do not accept personal checks. If you send me a money order or cashiers check that is not from the Post Office or Walmart, It will delay the process since the bank has to verify these money orders due to so many fake money orders being used these days. If for any reason I feel that the puppy you have reserved is not going to be what you wanted, or has any kind of a health issue, I will refund your deposit after discussing this with you. I reserve the right as the breeder to cancel the sale if there is a valid reason. Otherwise, deposits are non-refundable, so if you change your mind after you have paid the deposit, your deposit will not be refunded.

If there is a minor problem like a cough or cold, we will have to postpone the date you get the puppy, It is better to wait a little while to get your puppy, than have the stress of shipping and or going to a new home make the puppy worse than it would be if it stayed with me. I absolutely won't sell a puppy that I don't feel is 100% healthy and ready for it's new home.

8. I am no longer having puppies ears cropped. I am leaving their ears natural, and ear cropping will be up to the new owner. All puppies will have their dewclaws removed and tail docked at 3 to 5 days of age.

9. Puppies are not allowed to leave JackPins Ranch until they are at least 8 weeks of age and I prefer to keep them until they are 98 weeks of age before they go to their new homes. Not all puppies are ready to go at 9 weeks, and the tiny ones may need to stay longer. This we can discuss before you put down a deposit. It is imperative that you keep the puppies shots up to date. Puppies need a series of 3 shots before you should have them out in high traffic areas where other dogs and puppies have been. Even puppies and dogs that have their shots can get a virus or bacteria that kills them, but puppies that are not up to date on their shots are left completely unprotected from these life threatening diseases. Your puppy will be up to date on their shots when they leave my home. I will provide with the other paperwork a current health record that will show you and your vet when your puppy had their shots, and were wormed.

10. The balance of what is owed on your puppy can be paid with a money order or cash when you meet your new puppy.

11. I will have a contract for you to sign, one copy for you, and one copy for me to keep, the health guarantee is on the contract along with the shot record.

12. I will do my best to make picking up your puppy as easy and convenient as possible. personal checks.

13. I microchip my puppies before they leave Jackpins Ranch. If you do not want your puppy microchipped, that is fine, but I do not recommend this. The microchip will allow your puppy to be tracked back to you or to me if it is lost or stolen, or ends up at an animal shelter.

14. I will try to take pictures of your puppy for you at a reasonable interval while the puppy is here at Jackpins Ranch. I do work full time, and have a lot of things that have to be done here, in addition to taking care of my beloved Min Pins. I have a busy schedule, so I can't always get them taken and out to you as often as you and I would like. If you want pictures constantly, you should purchase a puppy elsewhere. I take a lot of pride in the pictures I take of my puppies, I don't send out blurry, poor quality pictures. It takes a lot of time to get good pictures of the puppies, so I need the buyer's to understand this. When puppies are over the age of 6 weeks, it is very hard to get them to hold still for pictures, but I do the best I can.

15. I do litter box train all my puppies, and I do recommend you continue with this for at least the first month, to make their transition easier, and for the rest of their life if you like the system. I have had to switch to other types of litter due to finding the Secondnature Brand being so difficult in this area. I still recommend their website, as they have a lot of helpful information and even a video that you can watch. I have been using a combination of Feline Pine, or Feline Fresh, which are both a pelleted pine litter, and Yesterday's News, which is a recycled paper pellet. This combination is very absorbent, and controls odors the best. These brands of litter are usually available at Walmart, Petco, and Petsmart. I have links to their website's below under the Litter Training link. I do recommend you use one of the brands of litter I have listed on my Litter Training Page, as some litters are not safe for your puppy, especially the clumping types of litter. Also make sure any type of wood pellet litter you use has been heat treated. Some wood pellets can be toxic to your puppy, unless they have been heat treated.

16. I am happy to help you in the transition to your home, from mine, and if you have any problems or concerns after you recieve your puppy, I will be glad to help you in whatever way I can. My goal is to handle things the way I wish they were handled when I buy a puppy from someone else.

17. In order for the health guarantee on your puppy to be valid, you have to keep your puppy up to date on shots and worming, and basic health care, which includes yearly checkups with your vet, and regular dental care.

SHIPPING:

I no longer ship my puppies. So, if you purchase a puppy from me, you will have to come here to pick it up, or I may be able to meet you part way, depending on your location.

Bring paper towels or baby wipes and a cat sized litter pan with you, in case your puppy needs to go potty on the way home, or has an accident that needs to be cleaned up.

AFTER CARE:

1. Feed your puppy a good quality puppy food for one year, and then switch to a good quality dog food when your puppy is 12 months old. I feed Royal Canin small breed puppy food, to get them going good. Do your research and pick a good quality food, it will show in your dogs skin, coat, and energy level, and save you money in the long run.

2. Besides feeding a good quality dog or puppy food, with Omega 3 & 6 oils in it, I believe that most coat problems with dogs are caused by a stressful environment, and or a poor quality dog food, or feeding human food instead of sticking with a good quality puppy or dog food.

3. Be prepared to take your puppy or dog in for at least a yearly check up with your veterinarian, and keep them up to date on shots and worming. I recommend keeping your dog or puppy on heartworm prevention year round. I use Interceptor, as it not only keeps your dog protected from heartworms, but most other parasites as well.

4. You need to discuss and have in place a good flea prevention program with your vet. Fleas can cause your dog a lot of health problems. I personally use Frontline Plus on all my dogs during the spring, summer and fall months.

5. Most small breed dogs, including Min Pins,
need to have their teeth cleaned or at least checked by a veterinarian yearly. I can't stress enough how important this is to your Min Pins health. Dental Cleanings can be a little expensive, but there are a lot of health problems that can be prevented by keeping your dogs teeth and gums healthy and clean.

Interesting Pet Dental Facts

Periodontal disease is the most prevalent disease among dogs and cats.
80% of dogs and 70% of cats over age three will require dental care during their lifetime.

There are a lot of great products out there on the market to help keep your pet's teeth clean, I will be glad to recommend some, or you can ask your veterinarian for recommendations. Dental problems kill more dogs and cats than any other disease. They also lead to heart problems, which is the 2nd largest killer of pets.

I hope this information has been helpful to you, let me know if there are any questions or concerns that I have not addressed here.
